Why we think KLS is cool AF

For those of you who haven’t yet been acquainted with our friend Kate Loudoun Shand and her wildly good textile line, please allow us to properly introduce you... You’ll soon see why we think she’s so insanely cool and genuinely one of the most talented textile artisans around!

“For me, so much of it is about the sensuality of the space… the smells, the textures around me, the overall feel.” Kate starts her day with a refreshing 45-minute walk along the English countryside, covered in green pastures with sheep and deer. Upon arriving to her office, she lights one of her favorite candles “to get the smell of the space right” and begins the workday—painting, reviewing samples, and corresponding with clients. Her current world in Wiltshire, U.K. is a far cry from her old neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY, but this slower pace of life gives Kate and her husband and business partner, Chris, the opportunity to spend more time with their elderly mothers and extended family. Kate and Chris, along with their three children, George (12), Sophie (8), and Burt (6), have been back home in the U.K. for almost two years now, and Kate is enjoying her time as a beautiful blend of textile design and family life.

Cabana Magazine's 'Masters and Muses' with Nathalie Farman-Farma

We were thrilled to see Décors Barbares designer Nathalie Farman-Farma on IGTV with Cabana Magazine’s editor in chief, Martina Mondadori Sartogo this past week. Martina and Nathalie discussed all things inspiration, from elaborately layered caftans to beaded Ukranian jewelry. Nathalie shared her deep admiration for the humanities, specifically her academic past with the study of classical antiquity, her present admiration for Russian culture, and her new interest in Japan and China. She credits the complexity of her multi-cultural designs to the beautiful cross-pollination of different geographic areas as a result of trade advancement. ‘It’s the trade really. These trade objects [costumes, jewelry, books, bits of ribbon and trim] went all over the world…,’ says Nathalie, as she shares her collection of antique textiles from endless different origins.

Stock Your Sample Library

There is nothing better than having a full set of memos in your library for the textile and wallcovering lines you love most - are we right, or what?! In our own library, we have dedicated baskets for the lines we use most frequently so we can go back to them over and over again with ease. We’re curious - do you do the same, or is there some other way you prefer to organize your library? Whether it’s loose memos that strike your fancy or a more polished complete set, we’d be happy to let you know what’s available and hook you up with any of our artisanal lines’ memos - just say the word!

A Designer's Dream: Custom Colorways

A Designer's Dream: Custom Colorways

One of our all-time favorite aspects of interior design is the opportunity to let our imaginations run wild in order to create something completely and totally unique for each of our clients… which is why we have long since treasured working with boutique textile and wallcovering lines like the ones we represent in our showroom. Not only do these artisans produce best-in-class patterns and colorways, but the option to do a custom colorway (or even a bespoke pattern, in many cases) is a cinch and highly rewarding, creatively speaking! The process is way easier than you may think, and custom colorways are a simple way to create next-level customization for your client projects. Here’s a brief overview on how it all works.

#FabricFriday: 12 4th of July Inspired Palettes

This July 4th, in particular, we’re thinking a whole heck of a lot about what matters most in life. To us, that means freedom and true equality for every person - regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation, good health, kindness, and the extraordinary gift that is creativity.

And creativity most definitely struck as we were pulling these festive red, white and blue palettes together. Enjoy!

Get Outside

Get Outside

There’s not a client out there who hasn’t requested super durable fabrics for their bustling kid and dog-filled homes - and the range of indoor/outdoor, performance fabrics on the market today is incredible to help designers fill that need where there was previously a huge void. We used to rely on the big fabric houses to provide a well-designed array of performance textiles but what’s NEW and exciting is that smaller, artisanal lines are in the game too! And thank goodness, because with them comes a gobsmacking array of original and super cool fabrics that wear just as well indoors as they do out.

Zoom Gorgeousness

Raise your hand if you’ve been on one too many video calls as of late (entire country thrusts their hands sky-high!) We jest, but it’s actually pretty amazing to be able to use technology like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc. to stay connected during this COVID-19-induced quarantine. We can’t even fathom what this whole debacle would have been like before modern-day conveniences like these.

And now, thanks to some wildly creative textile and wallcovering artisans, your Zoom meetings can be majorly elevated. Two of our lines, Seema Krish and Fromental, have created a series of free downloadable backgrounds to keep us all inspired and our surrounds looking super fine.

Allow us to tell you about them…

Here are just a handful of the images you’ll be able to snag. There are so many more are available on their websites for you to use (links below).

Download your Seema Krish Zoom backgrounds here and your Fromental Zoom backgrounds here, and be sure to use the hashtags #clothandkindshowroom + #zoomwithseemakrish or #zoomwithfromental when you share on social to let us all see which backgrounds are your favorites. Thanks, Seema and Fromental!

Be well, y’all.

#MemoMonday: Blues for Days

Another batch of beautiful memos went out to a designer client of ours who is working on a beach house in Connecticut. Seeing these textiles together has wholly reminded us of how enamored we are with every shade of this versatile color, from indigo to periwinkle and cobalt to cerulean. See something you’re digging? We’ll send it your way, just say the word.
