ABOUT LCDQ LEGENDS // One of the most anticipated design events in the United States, La Cienega Design Quarter's LEGENDS is a 3-day celebration of design that takes place in Los Angeles, CA and brings together VIPs and tastemakers from the worlds of interior design, decor, art, fashion and architecture for receptions, keynote panel discussions, cocktail parties, book signings and personal appearances... [ see below for more information about the event and inspiration behind CLOTH & KIND's window ]
Each year LEGENDS embraces an overarching theme that is expressed in the windows of the members of the La Cienega Design Quarter shops and galleries. In 2014, CLOTH & KIND received the tremendous honor of being invited to participate and played with the chosen theme of Novel Interiors: Storytelling by Design to create a space in Sydney Harbour Paint's three nine-foot windows based on the James Bond classic, Goldfinger by Ian Fleming. Other participants included fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg, New York interior designer David Kleinberg and a roster of other insanely talented designers from around the country, each of whom transformed the windows of the LCDQ based on inspiration from the books and stories of their choosing.
The event drew thousands of attendees and the unprecedented participation of some of the most prominent design magazines in the United States including Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Veranda & Traditional Home.
ABOUT CLOTH & KIND'S GOLDFINGER INSPIRED WINDOW // We chose Ian Fleming’s Goldfinger for a variety of reasons. First, who does not love the dashing and dapper agent 007 James Bond?! We consider the post-war era of the book a wildly pivotal period for art, furniture and lighting design. It was a time that eschewed the formalism of the 40s and 50s and embraced a non-conformist mix of styles, patterns, periods and colors. This speaks to our design aesthetic fundamentally as we often times favor mid-century modernism over other eras of furnishings, for being lean and mean, glamorous and sophisticated. Oh, and the cheeky, sexy tone of the novel allowed for playful interpretation of gilded nudes and metallic hues throughout, which we always adore.
