LCDQ Legends 2014

LCDQ Legends 2014 | CLOTH & KIND

The cat is officially out of the bag! CLOTH & KIND has been invited by the La Cienega Design Quarter in LA to design a window for their 6th annual Legends event. Quite simply put, we couldn't be more excited about this whole darn thing!

If you're not yet familiar with Legends, it is one of the most anticipated design events in the country. It's a  3-day celebration of design in May that brings together the top editors of the nation’s most prized shelter magazines - Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, House Beautiful and Veranda to name just a few - with VIPs and tastemakers from the worlds of interior design, architecture, decor, art and fashion for keynote panel discussions, cocktail parties, exhibitions, book signings, personal appearances and receptions. There are 40 windows in the LCDQ that will be transformed by some of the most talented designers on the planet (their words, not ours ... we're still in complete shock over having been invited!) based on the themes of various novels. Legends is the largest design event of its kind on the West Coast, and is a prominent fixture on the national design event calendar.

This year's Legends theme is Novel Interiors, Storytelling by Design. All designers were asked to choose any novel and to then design a showroom window around that theme. Our window, at Sydney Harbour Paints (which we adore, by the way) is going to be a super luxe tribute to Ian Fleming's Goldfinger. Yes, that's right... as in 'Bond, James Bond'.  Think lavish & sexy meets glam & sophisticated. As designers, the opportunity to be wildly imaginative without restraint has been a wonderfully creative and freeing experience for us and we're beyond excited about sharing our window with you. Stayed tuned for behind the scenes posts of the installation!

Oh, and another cool little thing that we're kind of thrilled about... our window will be next to those designed by some of our most admired peers in the industry like Diane von FurstenbergHouse of HoneyKerry JoyceMark D. SikesMartyn Lawrence Bullard DesignTimothy Corrigan to name just a few. AND, several of our blogger/designer friends will be there as Legends Ambassadors which will be so fun. So, to put it politely, we're frickin' stoked about this!!! Now on to the most important question... what in the world are we going to wear?!

The Atlantan // Material Girl

Take a look at who is gracing the pages of The Atlantan this month! We were gobsmacked (to quote Tami in all her southern charm) when they approached Tami about being featured in the Best of the City issue - what a tremendous honor. With opportunity knocking, we set out to make it totally killer, including tapping into our dear and talented friends at Katharine Kidd and Bradley USA.

Katharine Kidd is an LA and Atlanta based fashion designer who is deservedly basking in her growing reputation as one of the hottest clothing designers around and who is, hands down, a genius at blending feminine details with edge and luscious materials. She is our go-to for unique and showstopping fashion - but don't take our word for it, check out the celebrities donning her frocks. Katharine was kind enough to outfit Ms. Ramsay head to toe for the shoot - and let me tell you, finding digs in her Atlanta store was as easy as pie. Here's Tami making her selections and trying stuff on. And can we please talk about that light fixture while we're at it?

This dress below was my personal favorite - I mean, what's not to love about dripping gold embroidery? However, the outfit Tami ended up wearing included a beloved, and therefore, mainstay fits-like-a-glove Charlotte Printed Blouse that Katherine brings back every season and mixes it up with new colors and patterns, along with Kimberly Pant, a sexy black slack with a revealing peek-a-boo leg slit.

Michelle Bradley, the sassy and wickedly talented founder and creative genius behind Bradley, ever so graciously welcomed The Atlantan to shoot Tami in her drop dead gorgeous showroom at ADAC.

I swear, we both want like one of everything in her showroom and appreciate the fully customizable nature of her product lines. Tami is mad for the large scale art featuring works by paper-cut-project, which you can get a glimpse of in the shot of her above.  I personally have my eye on this concrete side table in a major way... but I digress.

Anyway, besides all the fun leading up to and on the day of the photo shoot, we just adored being able to share Tami's local Atlanta favorites including Hugh Acheson's Empire State South restaurant, Susan Hable Smith's Hable Construction textiles for Hickory Chair, Bungalow Classic, Sally King Benedict's art, Gogo Ferguson's jewelry and Clay McLaurin's fabrics. Many of these talented folks we've already written about extensively on our blog so be sure to check out these links for deep dive looks at Susan Hable Smith, Sally King Benedict, Clay McLaurin and paper-cut-project. We've always loved sharing our favorite sources... it's our firm belief that sharing the news about others doing great things in the design world is the best way to help get them recognized and to spread the design love. In fact, if you haven't already, check out our Little Black Book for a complete list of the companies we routinely turn to over and over again in our own design practice.

A most sincere thanks to The Atlantan and Kate Abney for a piece that we are exceptionally proud to be a part of.

PS - and just because I'm so proud of my girl, I have to mention that Tami was also featured on the Contents page in addition to the piece on her on p. 48. Eeek!

House Beautiful, November 2013

Press: House Beautiful, November 2013 | CLOTH & KIND

Did you happen to catch Tami's stunning floral arrangement in the new November issue of House Beautiful?

Here's what she had to say about it.... "I was inspired by the warm golden hues of autumn here in the South. I used dried cardoon pods that I grew from seeds collected from Monticello, feather-light dried hydrangea, curly kiwi vine, cotton bolls plucked from a field in Georgia, and gourds cut from the vine - all nestled in a brass vessel."

I've always known that it's Tami's gathered approach to both floral and interior design that make her work so storied. At CLOTH & KIND, our goal is always to mix old with new and to curate the most interesting mix of pieces to fill a space that will tell the story of its homeowners. What a wonderful example this floral arrangement is of that exact notion.

Lonny, October 2013

If I were half as eloquent of a writer as my beloved partner in crime, Tami Ramsay, I may be able to adequately articulate the tremendous sense of joy and pride I'm feeling over her wonderfully storied home being featured in this month's Lonny magazine.

But, alas, I have never been exceptionally good with the written word so I will allow these incredible photos of her home - so beautifully shot by Sarah Dorio, and the gracefully written piece by Kate Abney - speak on my behalf.

We both want to give everyone at Lonny, especially Sarah, Kate and Catherine Dash - the brainchild of this story - big old virtual smooches and hugs. Thank you, most sincerely. Now go check out the full story, y'all  (there's lots more photos to be seen) - and be sure to leave a comment to let us know what you think!

Tami Ramsay, you rock.

Huffington Post & Lonny

Kelly Wearstler rocks, no question. So it was exciting to see coverage of our Proust on Design interview with her earlier this week covered in Huffington Post and Lonny - two of our personal faves. Thanks, guys!
