House Beautiful, June 2012

Lovely List: House Beautiful// CLOTH & KIND

Welcome to the first post in a brand new CLOTH & KIND column called Lovely List. Every so often, I'll share my personal choices of the 9 most lovely things from one of that particular month's design magazines. And I'm kicking things off with pretty, pretty images from one of my favorites, House Beautiful(June 2012). pages 76 // 94 // 24 // 46 // 36 // 38 // 100 // 15 // 77

Which images or articles were your favorites from this issue? If you're like me, you probably go back and re-read/peruse each issue multiple times before the next one arrives, right? Every time I look back through this one, I keep folding over more pages and focusing in on more little details of the various spaces. I love House Beautiful in that way - it's layered enough that I can enjoy it, and re-enjoy it over and over again all month long.

Seema Krish Sneak Peek, Part Deux

Seema Krish Sneak Peek, Part Deux // CLOTH & KIND

Seema Krish's soon-to-launch Bombay Glitz collection follows her successful Bombay Bliss collection. Glitz is more sophisticated, as Seema says, and is inspired by the glamour of Bollywood pop culture.

How gorgeous is this? The base metallic fabric in this line is called Glitterati. It's a solid linen with metallic zari yarn woven into it. Glitterati is the ground cloth for both Bandra Glitter blockprinted linen (top) and Pali Hill embroidered linen (bottom) but would also be so fantastic as a stand alone fabric. All of these designs will be available in both silver and gold, so you will be able to pick your glitz.

Thank you, Seema, for this fantastic peek of what's to come!

Seema Krish Sneak Peek

Did you enjoy Seema Krish's Proust on Design interview from earlier today? I loved getting to know her a bit better and hope you did too!

As promised, here's a little sneak peek of Seema's brand new Spring/Summer 2012 textile line. Per usual, I adore everything she has done. Juhu is a bold blockprint on a cotton/ linen basecloth with embroidery using a space dyed yarn. How rich and delicious are these colors? Brinjal (eggplant) is that sultry deep aubergine that you already know I love, and Baadal means rainstorm - how perfect of a description for this moody grey? It reminds me of the sky during monsoon season in  India.

Check back tomorrow morning - I'll have one final peek at Seema's new line for you to drool over.

PROUST ON DESIGN | Answered by my design icons, these must-ask questions come from a 19th century parlor game made popular by Marcel Proust, the French novelist, essayist & critic. This interview technique has been used by many journalists throughout the years but my column was primarily inspired by The Proust Questionnaire, which appears monthly on the back page of Vanity Fair(my alma mater). The twist here on CLOTH & KIND is that I've repurposed each question to relate to interior design. To read all of my Proust on Design interviews, please click here. Enjoy!

Fab Five: Movement

A Zigzag Line

A Zigzag Line // CLOTH & KIND

This quote from Emerson is posted on the bulletin board in my creative work space. It reminds me that it takes time to get where I'm going and to try to slow down and enjoy the ride. I'm pretty type A so often times I get impatient and just want to get there already, do you too? But then I take a deep breath and remember this. The words alone are calming to me, but even more so now that I've paired them with this serene painting from sherischart on Etsy layered with Walter G's hand block printed Squiggle fabric. What do you do when you need a reminder to chill out?

Grape, Cherry & Orange Creamsicle

This whimsical color palette is in celebration of summer's near arrival (the first official day is June 20th). Delicious enough to eat, no?!

If you're not yet familiar with Lin Morris, you must swing by their site. It's an online design shop and publication run by two friends and design lovers that celebrates quietly brilliant, well-crafted products from around the world. The Pop Skateboard Deck by Rory Panagotopulos fits the bill - it's 2 cool 4 school.

Today's Fab Five is just a little something I'm working on for a client. It's such a vibrant palette, don't you think?

Ceylon et Cie

Inspired: Ceylon et Cie // CLOTH & KIND

I recently had the opportunity to visit the store of one of my design icons. Michelle Nussbaumer's charming retail space, Ceylon et Cie, is brimming with the designer's finds from all around the world. It also showcases many of Michelle's beautifully designed pieces from her line of furniture and fabrics.

Next time you're in Dallas, block off a whole afternoon to spend here. In the meantime, you can shop Ceylon et Cie online.
